Military Expert Warns of Ongoing Threats Along Jordan-Israel Border
In a recent analysis, Major General Mohammed Al-Samadi, a retired Jordanian military official, stated that the recent shooting incident near the Dead Sea, which resulted in injuries to two Israeli soldiers, is likely not an isolated event. Al-Samadi emphasized that such operations require extensive planning and preparation, suggesting that future incidents may occur. The shooting, reported to have happened about 3 kilometers from the Eilot settlement, involved gunmen who allegedly crossed from Jordan.
The Dead Sea incident follows a similar attack on September 8, 2023, when a retired Jordanian soldier, Maher Al-Jazi, killed three Israelis at the Allenby Crossing before being shot dead by Israeli forces. Al-Samadi highlighted the growing concerns regarding the Jordanian border with the occupied Palestinian territories, especially in light of the escalating violence since the October 7, 2023 attacks.
According to Al-Samadi, the Jordanian border, which stretches 335 kilometers—97 kilometers with the West Bank and 238 kilometers with Israel—poses significant challenges for Israeli security forces. He criticized Israel's military actions in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon, claiming they are inflaming tensions among Palestinians and Jordanians alike.
The recent attack involved three assailants, two of whom were killed by Israeli forces while the third managed to escape back into Jordan. Reports indicate that the attackers were dressed in military uniforms, which prompted a strong response from the Israeli military, including the deployment of reinforcements and helicopters to locate the remaining suspect. A Jordanian military source clarified that the uniforms worn by the attackers do not belong to the Jordanian armed forces, distancing their military from the incident.
