Météo France reported that five departments in southern France remain under orange alert due to the continued threat of flooding. Approximately 900 people were evacuated in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, and many schools remain closed as a precaution. The flooding has disrupted transport, with major highways and railway lines, including the A47 and routes between Lyon and Saint-Étienne, rendered impassable.
The situation in towns like Annonay has been particularly dire, where rapid flooding overwhelmed the streets, leading to swift evacuations and significant property damage. Residents described the scene as chaotic, with water levels rising dramatically within minutes. The government has mobilized resources to assist those affected, including opening shelters for evacuees. As recovery efforts continue, authorities are urging caution and advising against entering flooded areas, which remain hazardous.
