Military and strategic expert, Major General Fayez Al-Duwairi, has emphasized the urgent need for Palestinian resistance factions in the northern occupied West Bank to adopt a dual approach in response to the escalating military operations by the Israeli army. In his recent analysis, Al-Duwairi highlighted the importance of forming popular resistance committees to safeguard towns and camps while engaging with both settlers and the occupation forces. He also underscored the necessity of preparing for a potential third intifada, advocating for a fresh strategy to address the ongoing conflict.
Al-Duwairi pointed out that the current Israeli military actions are reflective of a broader agenda set by the Israeli government, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who have previously presented maps that exclude a Palestinian presence in the West Bank during international discussions. He noted a significant difference between current operations and past military actions, explaining that earlier raids were more localized, whereas the current operations are extensive and involve larger forces and more aggressive tactics.
Since the onset of intensified operations on October 7, 2023, the Israeli military has engaged in various raids characterized by coordinated efforts between the army and settlers, with specific military actions targeting areas like the Jenin and Nour Shams camps. Al-Duwairi remarked on the unprecedented scale of these operations, which include airdrops and the mobilization of hundreds of soldiers, supported by the Israeli air force, to systematically dismantle essential infrastructure in the northern West Bank, such as electricity, water, and communication systems.
Israeli media reports suggest that these military actions are aimed at crippling the operational capabilities of Palestinian military factions, with the official Israeli radio labeling this operation as the largest since Operation Defensive Shield in 2002, indicating that it is set to continue for several days.
