Lebanese Minister Rejects New International Resolution Amid Ongoing Conflict
Lebanese Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi has firmly stated that Lebanon does not seek a new international resolution to halt the ongoing conflict with Israel. He characterized the recent Israeli military landing in the Batroun region as an "act of war" and a direct violation of Lebanon's sovereignty. Mawlawi emphasized the importance of adhering to UN Resolution 1701, which was established to ensure security in southern Lebanon following the Second Lebanon War in 2006. He reiterated that Lebanon is committed to a ceasefire and hopes for a swift resolution to the violence that has escalated since September 23, when Israel intensified its military actions against Hezbollah across Lebanon.
Mawlawi expressed concern over Israeli violations, stating that Lebanon has been subjected to continuous attacks and incursions, which he described as unacceptable. He highlighted that the Lebanese military is prepared to uphold its responsibilities under Resolution 1701, which includes the deployment of troops south of the Litani River. The Minister called for an immediate ceasefire to restore stability and allow displaced residents to return to their homes. He noted that the recent kidnapping of naval commandos in Batroun, identified as senior Hezbollah officials, has further exacerbated tensions in the region.
