Léon Marchand, the four-time Olympic champion, has announced plans to train in Australia for two to three months starting in January 2025. This decision follows his participation in the Indian Ocean Swimming Meeting in Reunion Island, which takes place from December 20 to 22, 2024. Marchand aims to experience a different culture and training environment before returning to his primary coach, Bob Bowman, in Austin later in the year.
The Toulouse swimmer, who recently withdrew from the short course World Championships in Budapest due to exhaustion, emphasized the importance of taking time for himself. He expressed a desire to recharge and refocus on his training, particularly as he prepares for the long course world championships in Singapore scheduled for July 2025.
Marchand's upcoming training in Australia will include opportunities to surf and explore new swimming disciplines, particularly breaststroke and freestyle. He is looking forward to this change as he prepares for the next Olympic cycle leading up to the Los Angeles Games in 2028.
