The Kuwaiti Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy has announced further programmed power cuts across several areas due to ongoing fuel supply issues. These power outages, taking place between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., aim to alleviate stress on the electrical grid amid rising temperatures and increased energy consumption, especially from air conditioning units. This marks the first time in years that Kuwait has had to implement such measures, reflecting the growing demands on its electrical infrastructure.
Affected areas include densely populated residential neighborhoods such as Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, Hawalli, and Salmiya, as well as industrial zones like Mina Abdullah and Shuwaikh. The Ministry has stated that these cuts are essential to maintain the stability of the country's electrical system, particularly after a recent disruption in gas supply that impacted power generation units. The situation has prompted Kuwait to seek additional electricity supplies from neighboring countries, including Oman and Qatar, to mitigate the crisis.
