Jules Koundé of the French football team takes a strong stance against the National Rally, emphasizing the importance of voting as both a duty and a right ahead of the second round of legislative elections.

Jules Koundé Takes a Stand Against the National Rally

The French football team continues to show its commitment both on and off the field. Jules Koundé, the right defender of the French team and FC Barcelona, has recently taken a firm stance against the National Rally (RN) party. Following his impressive performance in the round of 16 of Euro 2024 against Belgium, Koundé used his platform to address the upcoming legislative elections in France.

Speaking at a press conference after being named man of the match, Koundé emphasized the importance of blocking the extreme right and the National Rally. He expressed his disappointment with the results of the first round and the significant support for a party he believes aims to divide the French people. 'It will be important to block the extreme right and the National Rally. This is not a party that will lead our country towards greater freedom and living together,' Koundé stated.

Voting as a Duty and a Right

Koundé's stance is consistent with his previous statements on social media. Before the first round of elections, he tweeted about the importance of voting and expressed his opinion that the RN is not a viable solution for France. 'It is an important day for France and for its future. These days, voting is as much a duty as it is a right. (…) The RN is not a solution. It’s not a lesson, it’s just my opinion,' he wrote.

His sentiments were echoed by fellow teammate Marcus Thuram, who also called on the French to 'fight on a daily basis so that the RN does not pass.' Koundé's vocal opposition to the RN highlights the broader trend of athletes using their influence to engage in political and social issues, emphasizing the role of voting as both a duty and a right.

  • Koundé's comments come at a crucial time as France prepares for the second round of legislative elections scheduled for July 7. His statements reflect a growing concern among many about the rise of the extreme right in French politics.
  • The National Rally, led by Jordan Bardella, has been criticized for promoting policies based on division and disinformation. Koundé's remarks underline the importance of unity and the need to resist parties that seek to stigmatize and divide society.
  • By taking a public stand, Koundé and his teammates are encouraging their fans and fellow citizens to participate actively in the democratic process and to make informed choices that promote freedom and justice.
