Jean-Luc Lahaye's Legal Troubles Continue Amid Rape and Sexual Assault Allegations
The Paris Court of Appeal has upheld the charges against renowned 1980s singer Jean-Luc Lahaye, who is under investigation for rape and sexual assault of minors. This decision, made on Thursday, October 10, 2024, relates to one of the two young women who have accused him of sexual violence when they were minors. Lahaye's legal team had previously sought to change his status to that of an 'assisted witness,' claiming inconsistencies in the accusations, but the court dismissed this request, affirming the ongoing investigation.
Lahaye, now 71, was indicted on November 5, 2021, for offenses involving two young women born in 1998 and 2000, with the alleged incidents dating back to 2013. His lawyers, Sophie Obadia and Bertrand Burman, expressed concerns about the fairness of the investigation, stating that the complainant had not provided all requested evidence. They emphasized that numerous testimonies supporting Lahaye's character were overlooked, arguing that he should be allowed to continue his career as a performer.
The legal battle continues as both sides await further developments. The lawyer representing the complainant, Nathalie Bucquet, expressed relief at the court's decision, hoping for a swift conclusion to the investigation.
