Israeli Leaders Condemn Attack on Netanyahu's Residence
Israeli political figures have united in their condemnation of the recent attack involving the firing of two flares at Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's private residence in Caesarea. The incident, which occurred without causing any damage, has raised concerns about escalating violence against public officials. National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir emphasized that the incitement against Netanyahu has crossed a serious line, warning that the situation could escalate to the use of live ammunition. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich echoed these sentiments, urging security services to take proactive measures to prevent further violence that could undermine Israeli institutions.
The Israeli General Security Service (Shabak) and police confirmed that Netanyahu and his family were not present at the residence during the incident. In response to the attack, President Isaac Herzog and opposition leader Yair Lapid also condemned the act, labeling it extremely serious.
Protests Erupt Amidst Political Tensions
In the wake of the flare incident, protests erupted in various locations, including outside the Prime Minister's office in Jerusalem. Demonstrators blocked access to the office, calling for the resignation of Netanyahu's government and demanding early elections, as well as an urgent prisoner exchange deal. Reports indicate that among the three suspects arrested in connection with the flares is a senior reserve officer, with some media suggesting that the suspects are activists opposed to the current government. The protests reflect growing discontent among segments of the Israeli population regarding the government's policies and actions.
