Israeli Airstrikes Target Hezbollah in Beirut, Leaving Six Dead
In a significant escalation of hostilities, Israeli airstrikes targeted the Ghobeiry area in southern Beirut, resulting in the deaths of six individuals and injuring at least 15 others. This operation, which occurred on Tuesday, specifically aimed at Ibrahim Muhammad Qubaisi, a senior commander within Hezbollah's missile system. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed Qubaisi's elimination, describing him as a key figure responsible for launching missile attacks against Israeli civilians and maintaining crucial ties with Hezbollah's military leadership.
The airstrike was reportedly executed using advanced F-35 fighter jets, which have been employed in previous operations against Hezbollah, including the assassination of another high-ranking official last July. The IDF stated that Qubaisi had held various military positions within Hezbollah since the 1980s, including leadership of the Badr unit, which oversees operations in southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah responded to the airstrikes by launching rocket barrages targeting Israeli military bases and civilian areas, including Galilee and Haifa. This retaliatory action underscores the ongoing cycle of violence that has marked the region, particularly in recent days, with Israeli forces conducting extensive raids across Lebanon, leading to a reported death toll of 558, including numerous civilians.
The situation remains tense as Hezbollah mourns the loss of Qubaisi, referring to him as a martyr in the struggle against Israeli forces. The organization has vowed to retaliate against the ongoing Israeli aggression, which has intensified following significant losses within its ranks in recent weeks.
