Israeli Bombing Disrupts International Road in Central Syria
On November 11, 2024, Israeli shelling targeted the countryside of Homs Governorate in central Syria, leading to significant disruptions. The attack occurred shortly after an Israeli raid on the Sayyida Zeinab area, south of Damascus. According to the Syrian News Agency, the latest aggression specifically targeted the vicinity of the Shinshar area, resulting in the temporary closure of the vital international road connecting Homs and Damascus. This road is crucial for transportation and aid delivery, particularly for Lebanese arrivals in the region.
The bombing reportedly struck a gathering point for aid in the Shamsin area, near the international road, and was aimed at an ammunition depot associated with the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah. While local sources confirmed the target, they did not report any casualties from this specific raid. However, the Syrian Ministry of Defense previously reported that an Israeli airstrike on a residential building in Sayyida Zeinab resulted in the deaths of seven civilians and injuries to 20 others.
Israel has been conducting air strikes in Syria since the onset of the civil war in 2011, targeting various entities including government forces, Iranian positions, and Hezbollah. The frequency of these attacks has escalated in recent weeks, particularly following the intensification of the conflict with Hezbollah since September 2024. Israeli officials have stated that these strikes aim to thwart Hezbollah's transfer of military equipment between Syria and Lebanon, emphasizing their commitment to national security.
