Escalating Conflict: Israel and Hezbollah Exchange Rocket Fire
The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has intensified, with a significant increase in rocket attacks and military responses. On Thursday, the Israeli army reported that 30 rockets were fired from Lebanon towards the Western Galilee region. While there were no reported casualties from this barrage, the situation remains tense as sirens sounded across over 60 cities and towns in northern Israel, including Haifa and Acre.
Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for targeting Israeli soldiers in the Al-Sadana area of the occupied Lebanese Shebaa Farms. In retaliation, the Israeli army has issued evacuation orders to residents in the Bekaa Valley of eastern Lebanon, warning them of imminent military actions against Hezbollah facilities. Army spokesman Avichay Adraee highlighted the urgency of the situation, urging residents to vacate specified areas to avoid being caught in the crossfire.
Casualties and Military Actions
The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported at least three fatalities due to an Israeli raid on the town of Tayr Debba, marking a tragic escalation in hostilities. Reports indicate that on Wednesday alone, over 15 Israeli air strikes targeted various towns in southern and eastern Lebanon, including Zefta and Aita al-Shaab. In total, the Israeli military has conducted 138 air strikes within a 24-hour period, a significant increase since the conflict reignited on September 23.
Since the beginning of these hostilities, the death toll has reached approximately 2,000 in Lebanon, with thousands more injured and around 1.5 million displaced. Hezbollah has consistently retaliated with missiles, drones, and artillery targeting Israeli military sites and settlements, contributing to a cycle of violence that shows no signs of abating. The Israeli military has imposed censorship on casualty reports, further complicating the understanding of the full impact of this conflict.
