Islamic Jihad Movement's Stance on Jenin Camp Presence
The Islamic Jihad Movement, represented by Deputy Secretary-General Mohammed Al-Hindi, has clarified its position regarding the Palestinian Authority's presence in the Jenin camp. In a recent interview with Al Jazeera, Al-Hindi emphasized that the movement does not oppose the Authority's presence, provided it is based on mutual understanding that prioritizes the safety and unity of the camp's residents. He condemned the ongoing violence, describing it as part of an Israeli war of extermination against the Palestinian people.
Clashes and Protests in Jenin
The city of Jenin has been the epicenter of escalating tensions, marked by a general strike protesting the targeting of resistance fighters by Palestinian security forces. This strike coincided with renewed clashes between these forces and resistance fighters within the camp. Al-Hindi asserted that the youth involved in the resistance are defending their home and families, and that internal conflict only serves the interests of the Israeli occupation.
Call for Dialogue and Unity
Al-Hindi urged the wise leaders of Palestine, both within and outside the Authority, to intervene and facilitate dialogue to end the clashes. He proposed that external forces withdraw from the camp as a goodwill gesture, paving the way for serious discussions aimed at achieving peace and understanding among all parties. He also highlighted the need for a unified Palestinian front in response to ongoing Israeli aggression, particularly since the escalation began on October 7, 2023.
