Iranian Missile Attack Causes $53 Million in Property Damage in Israel
In a recent missile attack attributed to Iran, Israel has reported substantial property losses estimated at approximately $53 million. According to the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, the attack on October 1 resulted in significant damage across various locations, marking it as the largest single missile strike impact since the onset of the ongoing conflict on October 7, 2023.
The Israeli Property Tax Department has disclosed that the damage to civilian properties ranges from 150 to 200 million shekels ($40 to $53 million). One notable incident occurred near the Sea & Sun complex along the beach north of Tel Aviv, where damages alone are estimated at 50 million shekels ($13.5 million). Upscale establishments, including the Turkiz restaurant, suffered severe destruction, highlighting the attack's impact on local businesses.
Overview of Damages and Affected Areas
The missile strikes have resulted in extensive damage across about 10 locations, including several Israeli military bases, although no injuries were reported. Notably, in Hod Hasharon, a central Israeli city, around 100 apartments were affected, with damages in one building exceeding 10 million shekels ($2.6 million). An unnamed official emphasized the potential for greater casualties had the missile directly hit a building housing 250 apartments.
This attack is part of a broader escalation in hostilities, with Iran reportedly firing around 180 missiles at Israel, framing the assault as retaliation for the recent assassinations of key figures including Hezbollah's Hassan Nasrallah and Hamas's Ismail Haniyeh. The situation continues to evolve as tensions remain high in the region.
