Iran's Stance on Israeli Attacks and Nuclear Negotiations
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has firmly stated that Iran reserves the right to defend itself against any Israeli military actions, particularly in light of recent Israeli airstrikes on Iranian sites. In a televised address, Araghchi emphasized that Iran will determine the timing and nature of its response, indicating that Israel should be aware of the consequences if it targets Iranian nuclear facilities. He reiterated Iran's commitment to supporting Hezbollah and the broader axis of resistance against perceived threats.
Araghchi's comments come after Israel launched attacks on Iranian sites at the end of October, which Iran has vowed to respond to with significant force. He described the upcoming year as a critical period for Iran's nuclear path, indicating that it will be both sensitive and complex. The minister expressed Iran's readiness for any scenario, whether it leads to confrontation or cooperation.
In addition to addressing military concerns, Araghchi also spoke about Iran's nuclear negotiations. He stated that Iran is prepared to resume discussions regarding its nuclear program, but warned that strict measures would be taken if the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors issues unfavorable decisions against Iran. He reassured that Iran's nuclear program is peaceful and expressed a willingness to cooperate with the IAEA to demonstrate this, in accordance with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty obligations.
