Investigative Committee Launches Probe into Illegal Detention in Tula Region
The Investigative Committee of Russia is actively investigating reports of illegal detention on a farm in the Tula Region, where at least ten individuals, including a former participant in a special military operation in Ukraine, were allegedly held captive by a group of gypsies. This alarming situation came to light through social media reports, prompting the committee to take immediate action to verify the claims and establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident.
Conditions of Captivity and Forced Labor
According to the non-profit organization, Alternative, which combats human trafficking, the detained individuals were coerced into apple picking under dire conditions. They were initially promised payment for labor, but upon arrival at the farm, they were forced to sign receipts under duress, effectively trapping them in a cycle of exploitation. Reports indicate that the captives lived in unsanitary conditions, lacking basic amenities like hot water, and were subjected to violence for disobedience. As a form of reward for their labor, they were given alcohol in the evenings, further complicating their plight.
Rescue Efforts and Ongoing Investigation
Efforts to rescue the captives have been underway since the reports emerged. Relatives of the detainees reached out to Alternative for assistance, leading to successful rescues for many. However, concerns remain as calls for help continue to come in, indicating that several more individuals may still be trapped. The police have been alerted, but reports suggest they were aware of the situation yet took no immediate action. The community remains vigilant as the Investigative Committee continues its work to ensure justice is served and prevent further incidents of human trafficking in the region.
