Overview of Israeli Military Bases
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) maintain a vast network of military bases across the region, housing over half a million soldiers from various divisions, including infantry, armored, and artillery corps. These bases are strategically located throughout the occupied Palestinian territories and are managed under three regional military commands: northern, central, and southern. Each base serves multiple functions, including logistical support, training, surveillance, and intelligence operations.
Key Military and Logistical Bases
Among the most significant bases is the Branit Base, situated near the Lebanese border, which serves as the headquarters for the Galilee Division responsible for border security. The Nafh Base in the Golan Heights acts as a command center for operations on the Syrian front. Other notable bases include Yarden Base, which houses the Golan Division’s armored regiment, and Glilot, the largest intelligence base in Israel, responsible for cyber security and espionage.
The Nahal Oz Base, located close to Gaza, focuses on border monitoring, while Amos Base supports logistics and transportation for the Northern Command. Bases like Tyrosh and Nimra are believed to store nuclear weapons, underscoring the strategic military capabilities of the IDF. In recent times, these bases have faced scrutiny over intelligence failures, particularly highlighted during the Battle of the Flood of Al-Aqsa in October 2023, raising questions about the effectiveness of the IDF's surveillance and operational readiness.
