Hyundai Inster Unveiled at Busan International Mobility Show
Hyundai has introduced its new electric mini SUV, the Inster, at the Busan International Mobility Show. This compact vehicle is set to make its debut in Germany in 2024, following its initial release in Korea. The Inster is designed to be an affordable, versatile, and technologically advanced option in the electric vehicle market, standing out with its adventurous design and solid range capabilities.
Design and Features of the Hyundai Inster
The Inster's design is a stylistic evolution of the Hyundai Casper, featuring a closed black grill, unique light signature, and a pixel look reminiscent of the Ioniq 5. The mini SUV measures 3.83 meters in length, 1.61 meters in width, and 1.58 meters in height, with a wheelbase of 2.58 meters, providing ample interior space. The trunk offers 280 liters of space, expandable to 1,059 liters with the seats pushed forward. The interior boasts two 10.5-inch screens, ambient lighting with 62 colors, a sunroof, wireless cell phone charging, and USB-C ports. Additionally, the Inster includes a comprehensive safety and assistance package, with features like a 360-degree camera, rear parking sensors, and adaptive cruise control.
Battery Options and Performance
The Hyundai Inster offers two battery options: a standard 42 kWh battery and a long-distance 49 kWh battery. The larger battery provides a range of up to 355 kilometers according to WLTP, while the smaller battery allows for nearly 300 kilometers. The electric motor delivers 71 or 85 kW, enabling the mini SUV to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 11.7 or 10.6 seconds, depending on the variant. The Inster supports fast charging, with the battery capable of reaching 80% in around 30 minutes at a DC fast charging station. AC charging is done via an 11 kW on-board charger, with charging times of approximately 4 hours for the standard battery and 4 hours 35 minutes for the long-distance version.
Customization and Pricing
Customers can personalize the Inster with options like LED projection headlights, a two-tone exterior color with a contrasting black roof, and either 15-inch or 17-inch wheels. Inside, the vehicle offers customizable moldings, a compact center console, and foldable seats for added versatility. The Inster is expected to be priced around 25,000 euros, positioning it competitively against models like the Citroën ë-C3, Fiat Grande Panda, Renault 5, and VW ID.2. The global launch is scheduled for the summer, with the European, Middle Eastern, and other markets to follow. In Italy, bookings will open in September, with the launch anticipated by the end of the year.
