In a significant event organized by Hiberus and Grupo Clarín at the Faena hotel, Spain's leading technology firm showcased the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications across various industries. The gathering, held this past Wednesday, was the first in-person conference Hiberus conducted in Argentina, underlining its intent to expand aggressively in Latin America where it already employs over 500 professionals.

Grupo Clarín solidified its partnership with Hiberus through an agreement signed in December, aiming to establish an influential local technology conglomerate. This joint venture sets the stage for creating a software development hub to cater to markets in Argentina, Latin America, the United States, and Europe. During the event, Hiberus CEO Marcos Latorre disclosed that the company, which boasts 3,200 employees and annual revenues of 180 million euros, experienced a 45% growth over the last three years.

Latorre elaborated on Hiberus's innovative strategies, emphasizing their commitment to co-creating AI solutions with clients. "We are software builders with 30 AI-driven products," he stated, underscoring their vision to not only provide services but to enter new markets through innovative internal models.

Mariano Minoli, head of AI at Hiberus, highlighted their 'AI as a Service' and 'No Training' models, along with 'Capillary Adoption,' which facilitates comprehensive AI integration into businesses. Minoli cited successful AI applications in generating text, code, and images, particularly in marketing and sales, where returns on investment are highest. He showcased the implementation of AI tools like ChatGPT in various sectors, from automating resume filtering in HR to optimizing production plants and even predicting talent attrition.

Minoli further stressed the importance of converting AI concepts into practical, ROI-driven applications. "It's a pay-per-use technology, so understanding impact and prioritizing based on ROI is crucial," he recommended. Echoing these sentiments, Martin Ignacio Salaberri from Abbott advised continuous measurement and improvement based on data to ensure fast, effective AI implementations.

Notably, Grupo Clarín is leveraging AI to enhance reader engagement through its Ualter Reading Assistant, which summarizes articles and organizes information into easily digestible formats. Future launches like Ualter Sound and Ualter Instant will extend AI's reach into speech analysis and real-time story creation, respectively.

On a global scale, 16 leading AI companies, including OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and Anthropic, gathered in Seoul to discuss the safe development of AI. Spearheaded by the British and South Korean governments, this summit aimed to enforce transparency and accountability in AI advancements. Companies agreed to disclose safety assessments and ensure that their technologies stay within predefined risk thresholds, with severe measures including halting developments if safety can’t be guaranteed.

This meeting built on the consensus reached during a prior summit in Bletchley Park, UK, focusing on generating international standards for AI use, given its potential for misuse such as voter manipulation or deepfake content. In addition to safety, the discussions will also explore how AI can address global challenges like climate change and poverty, highlighting the need for ongoing innovation and governmental support.

  • Minoli's remarks implied a proactive approach to AI adoption within businesses, urging quick, small-scale implementations to stay ahead of competitors.
  • Julián Gallo of Grupo Clarín pointed out the limitations of AI in interpreting complex human emotions and nuances, such as irony and subtleties in opinion columns.
