BRICS Summit Highlights Economic Cooperation and Digital Development

The XVI BRICS summit, held on October 23 in Kazan, focused on enhancing economic cooperation among member countries and establishing secure frameworks for collaboration. A significant proposal from the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) aimed to create a unified platform within BRICS to boost mutual investments in high technology. This initiative received backing from key members of the BRICS business council, emphasizing the group's commitment to technological advancement.

Russian President Vladimir Putin underscored the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) development, stating that BRICS nations are not only acquiring competencies but are also becoming leaders in certain areas. RDIF estimates suggest that leveraging AI technologies could increase the GDP of BRICS countries by approximately 1.2%, equating to €340 billion annually. The summit highlighted the priority of enhancing computing power for AI implementation across various sectors.

Partnerships and Infrastructure Development

In a strategic move, RDIF partnered with BitRiver, a leading data center operator in Eurasia, to implement AI technology projects and establish data centers across BRICS nations. This collaboration aims to reduce costs, lessen reliance on foreign technology, and foster the development of indigenous digital solutions. Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of RDIF, emphasized that the joint use of high-tech infrastructure would empower BRICS members to independently control critical data.

BitRiver's CEO, Igor Runets, highlighted Russia's leading position in industrial mining and its potential as a hub for energy-intensive computing, including AI projects. With abundant electricity and expertise in building data centers, Russia is poised to significantly enhance its computing capacity in the coming years. Runets noted that the infrastructure development would not only benefit Russia but also provide substantial advantages to BRICS partners, positioning Russia as a key player in the digital economy within the group.

Future Prospects for BRICS and Digital Technology

The summit marked a pivotal moment for BRICS as it seeks to establish itself as a leader in digital technology and economic collaboration. Russia's unique capabilities in data center infrastructure and AI development could lead to a transformative shift in the economic landscape of the BRICS nations. As member countries express interest in partnering with Russia, the potential for increased foreign investment and technological innovation is significant.

Overall, the BRICS summit reinforced the commitment of member states to work together in advancing their digital economies, with Russia playing a crucial role in this evolution.
