Hezbollah's Military Resilience and Israel's Strategic Plans
In a recent analysis, military experts have shed light on the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, highlighting Hezbollah's preparedness for a prolonged engagement following a series of Israeli strikes. Major General Fayez Al-Duwairi emphasized that Hezbollah has effectively regained its footing on the battlefield and is ready to implement a defensive strategy tailored to the unique terrain of southern Lebanon.
Al-Duwairi noted that Israel has mobilized significant military resources, including four armored brigades and an equal number of infantry brigades, crossing into Lebanon to conduct reconnaissance missions aimed at identifying Hezbollah's defensive positions and tunnel networks. He stated, "The occupation seeks to create a foothold to update its target bank and facilitate the entry of its forces," suggesting an escalation in both land and air operations to weaken Hezbollah's capabilities.
Despite recent setbacks, Hezbollah has managed to maintain command and control over its forces south of the Litani River, which remains a critical area in the conflict. The Litani River, extending 170 kilometers, is a strategic boundary that Hezbollah has fortified over 18 years. Al-Duwairi pointed out that air power alone does not determine the outcome of battles, although it plays a significant role in shaping them.
Brigadier General Elias Hanna, another military expert, echoed these sentiments, asserting that Hezbollah is prepared for tactical engagements near the Blue Line, which marks the border between Lebanon and Israel. He indicated that Israel's military objectives appear to focus on isolating Hezbollah forces and pushing them back beyond the Litani River.
Hanna criticized Israel's approach, stating, "Hezbollah has not lost yet, and Israel has not won," suggesting that the conflict remains in a stalemate, with neither side achieving a decisive victory. He also highlighted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's goal of neutralizing Hezbollah, viewing it as a pivotal ally for Iran in the region.
As the situation evolves, both military experts anticipate that the conflict will continue to unfold with significant implications for regional stability.
