Mohammad Haidar: Key Figure in Hezbollah's Military Operations
Muhammad Haidar, often referred to as "Abu Ali," is a significant leader within the Lebanese Hezbollah organization, known for his military and security leadership roles, particularly in southern Lebanon and Syria. Born in 1959 in Qabrikha, Haidar has been instrumental in shaping Hezbollah's military strategies and operations. He has also served as a member of the party’s Jihad Council and has held the position of Deputy Chairman of Hezbollah's Executive Council.
Recent Israeli Airstrike Targets Haidar
On November 23, 2024, an Israeli airstrike targeted a building in the Basta area of central Beirut, reportedly aimed at assassinating Haidar. The attack resulted in the deaths of 11 individuals and left 23 others injured, according to the Lebanese Civil Defense. This incident marks a continuation of Israel's attempts to eliminate key Hezbollah figures, as they previously attempted to assassinate Haidar in 2019 using drones, which ultimately failed.
Haidar's Military Background and Political Involvement
Before his full commitment to Hezbollah's military operations, Haidar worked as an administrator for Middle East Airlines. His military career began in earnest as he took on various roles within Hezbollah, including overseeing military operations in Syria. His political involvement includes serving as a member of the Lebanese Parliament from 2005 to 2009, representing the Marjeyoun-Hasbaya district. Haidar's extensive training in strategic planning and political work has contributed to his prominence within the organization.
