Escalating Conflict: Hezbollah and Israel Exchange Strikes
In a significant escalation of hostilities, Lebanese Hezbollah announced on Friday that it targeted multiple Israeli military sites, including two bases and 25 gatherings of Israeli soldiers, using missiles and drones. This response comes amid ongoing Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon, particularly in the suburbs of Beirut. Hezbollah claimed responsibility for attacks on the Tira Carmel base near Haifa and the Shraga base, which serves as the command center for the Golani Brigade.
The group also reported targeting the Dishon settlement in Galilee and several other locations where Israeli soldiers were gathered. In total, Hezbollah stated it struck 16 gatherings of Israeli forces in southern Lebanon, including towns like Maroun al-Ras and Khiyam. This surge in attacks follows the Israeli army's announcement of a new phase in its ground operations in Lebanon, aiming to penetrate deeper into the region.
Israeli Airstrikes Intensify in Response
In retaliation, Israeli warplanes have ramped up their bombing campaigns across various regions in Lebanon, particularly focusing on the southern suburbs of Beirut. Reports indicate that Israeli forces have conducted airstrikes in areas such as Hadath and Harat Hreik, with warnings issued to residents to evacuate before strikes were carried out. Over the past 48 hours, the Israeli army has reportedly targeted around 30 locations in these suburbs, reflecting a significant increase in military activity.
Additionally, Israeli media reported a loud explosion heard in Tel Aviv, although no official explanation has been provided by the military regarding the incident. As the conflict continues to unfold, the situation remains tense, with both sides engaged in a cycle of retaliation amidst the broader backdrop of the ongoing war in Gaza.
