The health crisis in Gaza deepens as medical supplies dwindle, prompting urgent calls to save women and children. Discover the devastating impact of the ongoing conflict on the region's healthcare system.

The ongoing war in Gaza has led to a severe humanitarian crisis, with a particular focus on the plight of women and children. Dr. Muhammad Saqr, spokesman for the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis, emphasized the dire situation during a recent press conference, highlighting the scarcity of medical supplies that has forced medical teams to prioritize saving lives amidst overwhelming challenges. He stated, 'We have become medical teams, and with the scarcity of medical supplies in emergency departments, we are focusing on saving children and women to preserve the Palestinian race in Gaza.'

The health system in Gaza has suffered catastrophic losses, with more than 70% of its clinical capacity diminished due to the conflict. Currently, only 4 out of 14 hospitals are operational, as reported by Dr. Abdul Latif Al-Hajj, Assistant Undersecretary of the Palestinian Ministry of Health. The situation is further exacerbated by the unavailability of over 50% of essential medicines and 60% of necessary laboratory materials. The ongoing Israeli military actions, supported by the U.S., have been described by international experts as genocidal, with a staggering number of casualties, predominantly among women and children.

In light of this crisis, Dr. Saqr has called upon the global community to exert pressure on Israel to facilitate the entry of much-needed medical supplies into Gaza. The destruction of civilian infrastructure, including homes, schools, and hospitals, has left countless families in despair. With entire families erased from civil registries and tens of thousands reported as martyred, wounded, or missing, the humanitarian toll of this prolonged conflict continues to rise.
