Gaza Health Director: Children Freezing to Death is a Humanitarian Shame

Marwan Al-Hamas, Director of Field Hospitals in Gaza, highlights the humanitarian crisis where children are freezing to death due to the ongoing conflict, calling for urgent global intervention.

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is reaching alarming levels, particularly affecting vulnerable populations such as children and the elderly.

The destruction of medical facilities and the targeting of healthcare workers pose significant challenges to providing necessary medical care in conflict zones.

The international community's response to the crisis is critical in addressing the immediate needs of those affected and preventing further loss of life.

Without immediate humanitarian intervention, the situation in Gaza is likely to deteriorate further, leading to more casualties and suffering among the population.

Increased international awareness and pressure may lead to calls for ceasefires or humanitarian corridors to allow aid to reach those in need.

The ongoing conflict may result in long-term health consequences for the population, particularly for children who are suffering from malnutrition and lack of medical care.

The Director of Field Hospitals in the Gaza Strip, Marwan Al-Hamas, has issued a heartfelt plea to the global community, condemning the dire humanitarian crisis affecting children in the region. He highlighted the tragic circumstances where young children are freezing to death in makeshift tents due to the ongoing conflict and harsh winter conditions. Al-Hamas described the situation in northern Gaza's hospitals as increasingly dire, particularly at Kamal Adwan Hospital, which has been under continuous attack for 85 days. He reported that the hospital's infrastructure has been severely compromised, with walls cracking and shrapnel falling into patient areas due to nearby bombings.

Al-Hamas recounted a particularly harrowing incident where an 8-month-old infant was brought to a hospital in Khan Yunis, having frozen to death in a tent. He emphasized the shameful reality that such tragedies are occurring in a region with a moderate climate, stating, 'We do not live in the land of the Eskimos.' This sentiment underscores the urgent need for humanitarian intervention and support for the beleaguered population of Gaza.

The Ministry of Health in Gaza has reported staggering figures since the onset of the conflict in October 2023, with over 45,361 fatalities and more than 107,803 injuries attributed to the ongoing Israeli military operations. Al-Hamas attributed the worsening humanitarian situation to the Israeli occupation, which he claims is targeting hospitals and displacement areas, exacerbating food shortages and medical supply deficiencies.
