Heatwave Eases but Storm Risks Persist in France
After two intense days of heatwave conditions, France is experiencing a gradual easing of extreme temperatures, especially in the southeastern regions. According to the latest bulletin from La Chaîne Météo, the risk of storms continues, albeit in a less widespread manner than in previous days. The South-East, particularly around the Mediterranean, remains under the grip of high temperatures, with thermometers soaring due to the influence of the mistral and tramontane winds. Currently, 11 departments have been placed on orange alert due to the heat, including Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and Bouches-du-Rhône.
In the morning, cloudy conditions prevail across much of the country, with thunderstorms developing in areas south of the Garonne and in Burgundy. The South-East, however, continues to enjoy sunny and warm weather, with temperatures expected to reach 35°C in some areas. As the day progresses, stormy showers are anticipated in the northeastern regions, while the western parts of the country will experience a beautiful day with milder temperatures.
Upcoming Weather Trends and Safety Tips
As we approach the weekend, a trend towards calmer and more seasonal weather is expected, which should be a relief for holidaymakers. Despite a gray and humid Saturday along the Channel, next week promises to bring summery conditions with warm temperatures on Monday and Tuesday. However, new scattered thunderstorms are forecasted for Wednesday.
In light of the ongoing heatwave, Météo France has issued guidance for residents to protect themselves from the heat. Tips include closing shutters, wearing light clothing, staying hydrated, and checking on vulnerable individuals. As temperatures remain high, especially in the Mediterranean basin, it is crucial to remain vigilant and prepared for changing weather conditions.
- The vigilance maintained by Météo France has seen 62 departments on orange alert for thunderstorms or heatwaves since Wednesday. By Friday, this alert has been reduced to 13 departments in the south-east, focusing solely on heatwave conditions. The tropical nights experienced earlier in the week have contributed to elevated temperatures, with some regions recording highs of 38 to 40°C. As the weekend approaches, the weather is expected to become more bearable, with temperatures dropping to a range of 25 to 30°C in many areas, while the Mediterranean region will still see peaks nearing 39°C. Residents are encouraged to take precautions against the heat and stay informed about weather updates.
