FIFA has proposed a new transfer window for the 2025 Club World Cup, allowing clubs to register players before the tournament. This initiative addresses contract expirations and aims to enhance competition among top teams like Bayern and Borussia Dortmund.

FIFA Proposes New Transfer Window for Club World Cup 2025

FIFA has announced a groundbreaking proposal to open a third transfer window for clubs participating in the upcoming Club World Cup, scheduled from June 15 to July 13, 2025, in the USA. This exceptional ten-day transfer period will run from June 1 to June 10, 2025, allowing clubs to register new players ahead of the tournament. The decision to utilize this window will be at the discretion of each FIFA member association, enabling clubs to bolster their squads before the prestigious competition.

Addressing Contract Expirations

The new transfer window comes in response to the unique timing of the tournament, which coincides with many players' contracts expiring on June 30, 2025. Notable players such as Joshua Kimmich from FC Bayern, Kevin de Bruyne from Manchester City, and Luka Modrić from Real Madrid are among those affected. FIFA has clarified that players whose contracts end during the tournament will be permitted to play under their existing contracts, ensuring they can participate fully in the event.

Ensuring Fair Play and Flexibility

In addition to the initial transfer window, FIFA has established a secondary registration period from June 27 to July 3, 2025, allowing clubs to replace players who may leave after their contracts expire. This flexibility aims to maintain competitive integrity while accommodating the complexities of player contracts. FIFA President Gianni Infantino emphasized the importance of creating optimal conditions for clubs and players, asserting that the 2025 Club World Cup will mark a new era in club football, showcasing the world's best teams and athletes.
