Families of Abductees Demand Action on One-Year Anniversary of Kidnappings
On October 5, 2024, families of the 101 abductees held by Hamas marked a somber milestone, one year since their loved ones were kidnapped from their homes. The families gathered outside the Kirya at Shaar Begin in Tel Aviv, expressing their anguish and frustration over the stalled negotiations for their return. Einav Tsengauker, a spokesperson for the families, stated, "Today marks 365 days since hundreds of women, men, and children were taken from their beds. We will not rest until every single one of them is returned home."
The families' headquarters issued a powerful statement emphasizing the urgency of their situation: "The abductees do not have time to wait for calm in the north. Each day spent in the tunnels of Hamas is a day in immediate danger of death. How is it possible that the government knows the whereabouts of enemy leaders but has no information on our loved ones?"
The families are calling for immediate government action, insisting that the State of Israel must prioritize the return of the abductees over political considerations. They accused Prime Minister Netanyahu of neglecting their plight in favor of maintaining his power. "As long as Netanyahu is in power, we will continue to mark anniversaries of their captivity," Tsengauker added, highlighting the emotional toll of the ongoing crisis.
The families also criticized the government for failing to present new proposals to mediators and called for public support in their ongoing struggle. "Only together can we bring everyone home," they urged, emphasizing the need for solidarity in their fight for justice.
