Voter Participation in the 2024 Presidential Election
Millions of Americans are gearing up to cast their ballots in the highly anticipated 2024 presidential election, featuring a competitive race between Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and Republican incumbent Donald Trump. With approximately 230 million eligible voters in the U.S., around 160 million are registered to vote. Notably, about half of the states allow same-day registration, while North Dakota does not require voter registration at all.
Election Day Voting Hours Across the U.S.
Voting on Election Day, November 5, 2024, will commence as early as 5 a.m. ET (10:00 GMT) and will continue until 1 a.m. ET (06:00 GMT) on Wednesday. Polling times vary by state, with several states opening their polls at different hours. For instance, states like Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York will open their polls at 6 a.m. ET, while California will begin voting at 10 a.m. ET. As the day progresses, polls will close at staggered times, with the last polls closing in Hawaii at midnight ET.

In addition to the presidential election, voters will also participate in elections for 34 Senate seats and all 435 members of the House of Representatives. Gubernatorial elections will take place in 11 states and two territories, including Puerto Rico and American Samoa.
