Kenneth Law, a former Canadian chef, faces a civil lawsuit from the family of a suicide victim, Jeshennia Bedoya Lopez, over allegations of selling 'suicide kits' online. The case highlights serious concerns regarding mental health treatment and international investigations into his activities.

Former Canadian Chef Faces Civil Lawsuit Over 'Suicide Kits'

Kenneth Law, a former Canadian chef, is embroiled in a civil lawsuit filed by the family of Jeshennia Bedoya Lopez, an 18-year-old who tragically took her own life in September 2022. This lawsuit marks the first legal action against Law, who was arrested in May 2023 on 14 counts of first-degree murder related to his alleged operation of an online business selling 'suicide kits' across multiple countries. The family is seeking two million Canadian dollars (approximately 1.3 million euros) from Law and several medical professionals who treated Lopez for depression.

Allegations of Negligence and Misdiagnosis

The lawsuit alleges that Law operated a website that sold toxic chemicals intended to cause death. Additionally, the family claims that seven doctors who treated Lopez misdiagnosed her mental health issues and failed to provide adequate psychiatric care. Court documents reveal that despite being released from the hospital with clear signs of mental distress and suicidal ideation, Lopez was not given the necessary support she required.

International Investigations and Ongoing Legal Proceedings

Canadian authorities report that Kenneth Law shipped over 1,200 packages containing these 'suicide kits' to approximately 40 countries since 2020. The kits allegedly included a food additive that can be lethal if misused. Following Law's arrest, Interpol alerted several countries, leading to investigations in the UK, Italy, and New Zealand. In the UK alone, 272 individuals purchased products from Law's websites, with 88 confirmed fatalities. Law denies all charges, and his trial is anticipated to commence in 2025.
