Egyptian artist Hussein Fahmy, President of the 45th Cairo International Film Festival, has reaffirmed the festival's commitment to boycott companies on the boycott list, emphasizing support for the Palestinian cause. Despite economic challenges, the festival aims to restore confidence among sponsors while prioritizing local industry. Fahmy explained that the festival was postponed last year due to the ongoing suffering of the Palestinian people, and the upcoming festival aims to highlight these humanitarian issues through cinema.
The festival will take place from November 13 to 22 at the Cairo Opera House, featuring a strong program focused on Palestinian and Lebanese cinema. Fahmy stated the festival will serve as a platform for artists to convey messages about the struggles and aspirations of their communities, reinforcing the festival's role in addressing significant social issues through art.
