The Pirelli Calendar 2025: A Return to Sensuality and Diversity

The Pirelli Calendar, renowned for its artistic representation of nudity, is making a bold return to its roots with the 2025 edition, titled "Refresh and Reveal." This year's calendar, photographed by Ethan James Green, emphasizes the beauty of the human form in a contemporary context, celebrating diversity in body types, ages, and sexual identities. The launch event took place in London on November 11, 2024, showcasing a cast that includes notable figures such as Padma Lakshmi, John Boyega, and Hunter Schafer.

Artistic Vision and Cultural Commentary

Ethan James Green, the photographer behind this edition, aims to redefine nudity as a symbol of freedom and comfort rather than mere eroticism. He states, "It’s a real celebration of beauty, but we also reflect how beauty has become much more open." The calendar features 24 photographs of 12 diverse talents, including non-binary and transgender models, highlighting the importance of representation in contemporary art. The images were captured on the picturesque beaches of Virginia Key Beach Park in Miami, where the natural surroundings enhance the sensuality of the subjects.

A Political Statement Through Art

The Pirelli Calendar has evolved from its earlier focus on supermodels to a platform that conveys deeper messages about beauty and identity. Padma Lakshmi, one of the featured models, expressed her pride in being part of this project at 54 years old, stating, "The fact that there are different beauties, different ages, different genders in this iconic calendar is a sign of the times and also a political message." Marco Tronchetti Provera, Pirelli's executive vice president, emphasized the importance of the calendar as a cultural artifact, asserting that it reflects the belief that beauty transcends gender and age. This year's edition not only celebrates the human body but also serves as a commentary on societal norms and the evolving perceptions of beauty.
