Blues Regroup After Euro Defeat, Eye Nations League in September

Following their elimination in the Euro semi-final against Spain, the Blues are set to regroup for the Nations League in September. Key players and strategies are already being discussed.

Tuesday evening, the Blues did not hang around at the Allianz Arena in Munich. After their elimination in the semi-final of the Euro against Spain (2-1), the French contingent, once the media obligations had been completed, left the Bayern Munich compound around 12:30 a.m. Headed to the airport with a plane waiting for them to reach Paderborn, their base camp since June 12. All the suitcases were left there and it was planned for the French team to return there.

The staff and certain players exchanged and discussed until 4 a.m. It is always difficult for actors to get sleep on match nights. The return of the Blues to France, with their families, is planned for this Wednesday during the day. Afterwards, the dislocation will be effective and each international will be able to go on leave. No appointments or meetings with supporters are planned. With a defeat in the semi-final, this has no reason to be.

Now on vacation after their logical elimination in the semi-final of the Euro this Tuesday, against Spain (2-1), the Blues will meet at the beginning of September with the launch of the group stage of the Nations League. They will welcome Italy on the 6th at the Parc des Princes, then Belgium three days later at the Groupama Stadium in Décines. Considering the pedigree of the opponents (Israel is also in the group), it will be a question of not lingering along the way.

The first list of Didier Deschamps, reinforced in his position by his place in the last four (the 4th in twelve years, excuse me), will undoubtedly be communicated on Thursday, August 29. It will be part of a form of continuity and will bring together, more or less, a large majority of the players present in Germany. Only Olivier Giroud, the top scorer in the history of the selection (57), has formalized his international retirement. Antoine Griezmann, 33, passed through the competition like a shadow. But his visceral attachment to the French team seems likely to see him prolong the adventure. Until the 2026 World Cup, the qualifiers for which will stretch from March 2025 to March 2026?
