Arab Artists Unite to Support Lebanon Amidst Crisis
In response to the ongoing Israeli aggression against Lebanon that began on September 23, 2024, a coalition of Arab artists has mobilized to support the Lebanese people through various humanitarian initiatives. The attacks have left a devastating impact on civilians, prompting artists from across the region to leverage their platforms for advocacy and assistance.
Lebanese actress Maguy Bou Ghosn has joined forces with the
Himaya
Association, emphasizing the need for both material and moral support for affected families. On her Instagram account, she urged her followers to take action, stating, “I hope to provide assistance, whether financially or even morally, with a smile or a nice word. Our people need us.”
Fellow Lebanese singer Nancy Ajram also took to social media, sharing a poignant message on the platform X (formerly Twitter). She called for participation in the “Lebanese Hands” campaign, stressing the urgent need for peace for Lebanon’s children, and imploring her audience to “Don’t stay silent.”
Solidarity Across Borders
The wave of solidarity is not limited to Lebanon. Syrian actress Kinda Alloush encouraged her fans to support civil charities aiding those displaced by the conflict, declaring that “blood is one in times of crisis.” In Egypt, the head of the Actors Syndicate, Ashraf Zaki, announced plans for a solidarity event featuring Egyptian artists, highlighting Lebanon’s significance to the Arab artistic community.
Egyptian singer Hani Shaker has postponed his upcoming concerts in the United States, expressing his concern for the region’s turmoil, while artist Sherihan shared her support through Quranic verses, reinforcing the call for peace and dignity for the affected populations.
The Humanitarian Impact of the Conflict
Since the escalation of violence, which marks one of the most severe attacks on Lebanon in recent years, over 1,000 Lebanese civilians have been reported killed, including many women and children. Additionally, more than 2,000 individuals have sustained injuries. The conflict has also led to a significant number of displaced persons, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region.
As the situation develops, the solidarity initiatives by these artists not only aim to provide immediate relief but also raise awareness about the plight of the Lebanese people, emphasizing the importance of unity and support in times of crisis.
