Demonstration in Amman Demands Justice for Maher Al-Jazi Al-Huwaitat
In a powerful display of solidarity, protesters gathered in the heart of Amman, Jordan, demanding the return of Maher Al-Jazi Al-Huwaitat's body, following his involvement in the King Hussein Bridge operation that resulted in the deaths of three Israelis. The demonstrators, numbering in the hundreds, also called for an end to the ongoing Israeli war in the Gaza Strip and voiced their support for the Palestinian resistance. Holding up images of Al-Jazi alongside Abu Obeida, spokesperson for the Al-Qassam Brigades, the crowd emphasized their commitment to the Palestinian cause.
Jordan's Government Engages in Diplomatic Efforts
According to Al Jazeera's correspondent, Tamer Al-Samadi, the Jordanian government has been actively pursuing diplomatic channels to retrieve Al-Jazi's body from Israeli custody, as well as to secure the release of two Jordanian citizens currently under investigation by Israeli authorities. The protests reflect a growing sentiment among the Jordanian populace, who are increasingly vocal about their opposition to the Israeli aggression in Gaza, which has persisted for nearly a year. Al-Jazi, a retired soldier and truck driver, was shot by Israeli security forces after he opened fire during the border operation on September 8.
- The King Hussein Bridge, also known as the Allenby Crossing, serves as a critical point of transit between Jordan and Israel. The recent events have sparked heightened tensions in the region, with many Jordanians expressing their frustration over the ongoing conflict and the plight of Palestinians in Gaza. The protests in Amman signify a broader movement within Jordan to address these issues and advocate for justice and support for the Palestinian people.
