American Expat Shares Life in Russia: A Journey of Love and Opportunity
An American man, who prefers to remain unnamed, has shared his unique journey of moving to Russia, driven by love and a desire for new opportunities. Born to a Russian mother and a Jordanian father, he grew up in Massachusetts, where he was exposed to both English and Russian from an early age. After completing his education in Britain, he met his future wife, Lyuba, during her English courses in London. This encounter sparked his decision to relocate to Russia, where he now resides in Volgograd.
Upon arriving in Volgograd, he was captivated by the city’s beauty and warmth, particularly recalling his first impression of the grand clock at the train station. Initially, he worked as an English teacher before founding his own school, A-Plus, which has grown from eight students to around 70, catering to both adults and children across the country. His journey reflects not only a personal transformation but also a commitment to integrating into Russian society.
Embracing Russian Culture and Values
The American expat has expressed a deep appreciation for the Russian attitude towards family, which he considers a core value. He enjoys driving a Lada, a symbol of his embrace of Russian culture. While he initially faced challenges with the Russian language, his wife’s support helped him overcome these barriers, and he now feels comfortable communicating in Russian.
In contrast to his previous life in the United States, he has voiced concerns about societal issues, particularly regarding the LGBT agenda, which he does not support. He appreciates the different social dynamics in Russia and feels aligned with the country’s political stance, even noting that his father shares a favorable view of President Putin. Despite the challenges of adjusting to a new culture, he has firmly decided to remain in Russia, stating, “I have already made my choice.”
