Spanning ten episodes, the series was filmed in various locations including Moscow and the Chelyabinsk region, utilizing over 270 props, 35 horses, and more than 2,500 costumes to authentically recreate the 19th-century setting. The production also employed around two thousand extras to enrich the historical narrative.
A Glimpse into the Life of a Legal Luminary
Set against the backdrop of 19th-century Moscow, 'Plevako' chronicles the rise of a brilliant lawyer whose oratory skills and resourcefulness allow him to tackle seemingly impossible cases. While the main character shares a name with the historical figure, the series presents a fictionalized account that intertwines real-life cases from Plevako's practice with imaginative legal dilemmas.
The narrative follows the lawyer as he navigates personal and professional challenges, including a controversial murder case involving Praskovya Kachka, which draws the attention of influential figures, including Tsar Alexander II's advisor. As Plevako's world begins to unravel, he must confront pressures from both the criminal underworld and the authorities, all while managing a complex personal life marked by an affair with Maria Demidova, the wife of a linen magnate.
Producer Anastasia Akopyan emphasized that 'Plevako' is not merely a biopic but an artistic interpretation that pays homage to the historical figure. The series aims to elevate the serial format, providing viewers with a unique cinematic experience. Director Anna Matison highlighted the extensive research involved, stating that understanding the context of Plevako's life required delving into various historical documents and literature.
Bezrukov, who portrayed the lead role, expressed his commitment to capturing the essence of a lawyer dedicated to justice and mercy, urging audiences to watch all episodes for a comprehensive understanding of the character's journey.
