Young Gironde Couple Wins 48 Million Euros in EuroMillions Lottery
A young couple from Gironde, France, has become the region's largest lottery prize winners after securing a 48 million euro EuroMillions jackpot on May 14. The couple, in their thirties, validated two flash EuroMillions grids to clinch this life-changing amount, as reported by the Winning Draw site. This win dwarfs the previous record in the department, a 26 million euro prize won in December 2004.
Nationally, this win marks the fourth EuroMillions jackpot claimed in France this year. Despite their newfound wealth, the couple, who are casual lottery players, expressed their preference to remain anonymous. They shared exciting future plans during an interaction with La Française des Jeux, the French national lottery operator.
When the man informed his partner about their massive win, she initially dismissed it as another prank. Recounting the moment, she explained, “A few days earlier, one of our relatives had played a joke on us by pretending to be chatting with La Française des jeux and announcing that they had won a large sum. Naturally, I thought that was the continuation of the joke. But seeing my companion and listening to the sound of his voice, I quickly understood that it was reality.” Following the revelation, the couple secured their winning receipt in a metal cabinet filled with administrative papers at home.
Despite their substantial windfall, the couple is yet to decide fully how to utilize the money. However, they have shared some preliminary ideas, such as renovating their home, upgrading their car, and embarking on a trip to Thailand. They also expressed an eager desire to dine at all the starred restaurants across France, an ambition particularly cherished by the woman, a lover of fine dining.
In related news, the EuroMillions 'mega jackpot' of 130 million euros put into play on June 7 was not won. Consequently, an even larger jackpot of nearly 160 million euros will be up for grabs on Friday, June 14.
