Wissam Ben Yedder Faces Serious Legal Consequences for Alleged Sexual Assault

Wissam Ben Yedder, the former captain of AS Monaco and a French international footballer, is currently embroiled in a serious legal battle following allegations of sexual assault while intoxicated. The prosecution has requested a prison sentence of two and a half years for the 34-year-old player, who has been without a club since June when his contract with Monaco expired. The court hearing took place on October 15 in Nice, with a judgment expected on November 12.

The allegations stem from an incident on September 6, where Ben Yedder reportedly met a young woman in her twenties during a night out. According to the victim, after initially being friendly, Ben Yedder became aggressive and coerced her into his car. Once inside, he allegedly made unwanted sexual advances, including touching her thigh and masturbating in front of her. The victim managed to escape and promptly reported the incident to the police, leading to Ben Yedder's arrest.

During the hearing, Ben Yedder expressed remorse, stating, "I don't remember anything. I can't say if I did it. It's because of the alcohol that I'm here." His lawyer, Marie Roumiantseva, argued that the sexual assault was not substantiated and insisted that a conviction should not be based solely on the credibility of the complainant. The court is also set to address additional charges against Ben Yedder, including refusal to comply with police and driving under the influence of alcohol.

In a separate legal matter, Ben Yedder is scheduled to face trial at the end of December for psychological violence against his wife amid an ongoing divorce process that began in May 2023. This adds to his legal troubles, as he was previously sentenced to a six-month suspended prison sentence for tax fraud in Seville.
