Putin Appoints Artem Zhoga as Plenipotentiary Representative in the Urals
In a significant move, Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed Artem Zhoga, a prominent figure in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), as his plenipotentiary representative for the Urals Federal District. The decree, effective from October 2, underscores Zhoga's military background and his contributions to the region, particularly in the context of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. During a meeting with the new appointee, Putin praised Zhoga for his dedication to the defense of Russia and the safety of its citizens, highlighting the sacrifices made by his family, including the loss of his son in the Special Military Operation (SVO).
Zhoga, who is known for his leadership in the DPR and military service, expressed his commitment to his new role, emphasizing the importance of developing the country and supporting its citizens. He stated, “I am a soldier, I will work and serve the Motherland where I am needed at the moment,” reflecting his readiness to tackle the responsibilities associated with this vital position.
The Urals Federal District, home to numerous defense industries, is crucial to Russia's military capabilities. Zhoga's appointment comes at a time when effective governance and collaboration with local authorities are paramount to bolster the region's defense and civilian sectors. He has already reached out to the governors and residents of the Urals, seeking their support and promising to utilize his military experience to enhance the region's development.
Zhoga's background includes a long history of military involvement since the 2014 coup in Ukraine, where he joined the Donbass militia and rose through the ranks. His recent election as chairman of the DPR People's Council and his role in Putin's election headquarters further solidify his influence and responsibilities within the Russian political landscape. With awards such as the Order of Courage and the title of Hero of the DPR, Zhoga is poised to make a significant impact in his new role.
