Thrilling Battle Between Pogacar and Vingegaard in Tour de France
Slovenian Tadej Pogacar, still in the yellow jersey, faced a challenging 11th stage of the Tour de France in Lioran, where he was beaten by Danish rival Jonas Vingegaard. Despite his defeat, Pogacar acknowledged Vingegaard's impressive recovery and form after a serious fall three months ago. 'Now we can all say that he is in great shape, he beat me well,' Pogacar admitted, highlighting Vingegaard's strength in the second ascent.
Vingegaard's Remarkable Comeback
Jonas Vingegaard's emotional victory in the 11th stage was a testament to his resilience and determination. After losing about forty seconds on the descent, Vingegaard executed a stunning comeback on the climb to catch Pogacar and eventually beat him in the sprint at the finish line. This victory not only secured him a stage win but also a psychological advantage over his rival. 'Coming back from that fall means a lot to me. Everything I've been through in the last few months I could never have done without my family,' Vingegaard said tearfully.
Looking Ahead to the Pyrenees
As the Tour de France progresses, both Pogacar and Vingegaard are preparing for more challenging stages in the Pyrenees. Pogacar remains the leader of the general classification, with Vingegaard trailing by 1:14. Despite the intense competition, Pogacar remains optimistic about his preparation for the upcoming climbs on big passes. 'Afterwards there will be more important passes in the Pyrenees, it will be another race. I think I am more prepared for this type of race, my training was done for climbs on big passes,' Pogacar stated.
