US Mediates to Prevent Larger War Amid Hezbollah-Israel Conflict Escalation

US envoy Amos Hochstein is working to prevent a larger war amid escalating conflict between Hezbollah and the Israeli army. Recent bombings in Gaza and intense tensions along the Israeli-Lebanese border exacerbate the crisis.

US envoy Amos Hochstein revealed that Washington is working to prevent a bigger war, given the recent escalation between Hezbollah and the Israeli army along Lebanon's southern border. Hochstein described the situation as serious, following his meetings in both Lebanon and Israel.

The Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza saw heavy Israeli bombing overnight, resulting in at least 17 deaths, including women and children. Many victims belonged to the same family, and at least 10 individuals were injured while others remain trapped under rubble. This devastation was reported by Al Jazeera, citing local media sources.

The Israeli army, with naval forces' support, continues targeted operations in the Rafah area of southern Gaza. Based on intelligence inputs, Israeli forces have reportedly eliminated numerous terrorists in close encounters and discovered weapons including AK-47s and grenades.

Intensified attacks in central Gaza resulted in the elimination of terrorist infrastructures and close combat terrorists. The military spokesman noted the killing of an Islamic Jihad sniper cell commander and other threatening cells. These operations align with a roadmap proposed by President Joe Biden, with the senior Israeli official affirming no negotiations will occur outside this UN-accepted plan.

Israel continues to launch raids in southern Lebanon, resulting in at least one death and significant damage. Reports have highlighted the destruction caused by Israeli warplanes and drones in various towns in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah has escalated its attacks, firing over 5,000 missiles since early October, pushing both sides towards broader conflict.

  • The White House confirmed that Amos Hochstein would go to Israel to meet senior officials, aiming to prevent further Hezbollah-Israel escalation.
  • In Gaza, 35 individuals injured during the bombings are hospitalized in serious condition. The rising death toll and destruction have aggravated the humanitarian crisis in the region.
  • Lebanon’s Civil Defense noted the rising destruction and casualties in southern Lebanon due to Israeli artillery shelling, leading to fires in agricultural fields and damaging civilian properties.
  • The tension along the Israeli-Lebanese border has significantly increased since October 8, with exchanges of fire resulting in multiple deaths and injuries on both sides.
