Apple Maps Introduces Offline Functionality
Apple has enhanced its Maps application with a new feature that allows users to access maps without an internet connection. This function, launched with the iOS 17 operating system, is particularly beneficial for travelers and users in areas with unstable connectivity. According to the German technology portal Heise Online, Apple Maps now offers a seamless offline experience similar to that of Google Maps.
How to Use Offline Maps on Apple Devices
To utilize this new feature, users must ensure they have sufficient storage on their iPhones. The process begins by opening the Apple Maps app and selecting the personal icon next to the search bar. From there, users can navigate to the 'Offline Maps' option and initiate the download of maps by entering the desired city name. A selection box will appear, allowing users to define the area they wish to download. Notably, the maximum download limit is set at 8 GB, ensuring ample space for detailed maps.
Additional Features and Benefits
The offline maps menu offers several useful options, including the ability to activate automatic updates while connected to Wi-Fi. This feature helps users conserve mobile data while ensuring they have the latest maps available. Users can also choose to use the Maps app exclusively in offline mode, enhancing its utility during travel or in remote areas.
