After the surprise and days of silence, Ukraine admits having launched a daring offensive on Russian territory. Started on Tuesday, this unprecedented operation in the Kursk region allowed a breakthrough over around ten kilometers and the takeover of several localities. The Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, quickly mentioned it, for the first time, in his daily address on Saturday evening, affirming that Kiev was seeking to “move the war to the territory of the aggressor” and to “do justice.”
Russia has already evacuated more than 130,000 people from two regions bordering Ukraine since kyiv launched an offensive that has entered its territory. This Monday it displaced 11,000 inhabitants of the Belgorod region, in addition to the nearly 120,000 in the Kursk area, where kyiv crossed the border last Tuesday in the first incursion into Russian soil since the war began.
