Uber has introduced a new feature called 'Uber by women' that allows female passengers to book rides exclusively with female drivers. This option, available starting November 28, 2024, aims to provide women with a choice and enhance their sense of safety during rides. The feature is currently available in Paris and the Île-de-France region, where only 5% of Uber's drivers are female.
The initiative is part of Uber's broader strategy to feminize the driving profession and encourage more women to join the platform. To support this, Uber is reducing service fees for female drivers from 25% to 15% until February 28, 2025, in an effort to attract more female drivers and improve availability for users of the new feature.
While the service is free for passengers, they may experience longer wait times for rides with female drivers, averaging 15 minutes compared to 4 minutes for standard UberX rides. This is due to the limited number of female drivers currently available in the region.
