Trump Arrives in Milwaukee for Republican National Convention
Donald Trump has landed in Milwaukee to participate in the Republican Party convention, which will officially nominate him as the party's candidate for the White House. His son Eric Trump shared a video of the landing on X. Upon his arrival, Trump exited the plane raising his fist, a gesture he also made after surviving an assassination attempt during a rally in Pennsylvania. The former president appeared to be in good health.
In an interview with the New York Post aboard his plane, Trump reflected on the assassination attempt, calling it a 'very surreal experience.' He added, 'I shouldn't be here, I should be dead.' Trump recounted the moment he was shot, describing it as feeling like 'the biggest mosquito of my life.' He praised President Biden for a supportive call he received afterward.
Melania and Ivanka Trump Absent from Speaker List
The convention has a star-studded lineup of speakers, including rapper and model Amber Rose, controversial anchor Tucker Carlson, and investor David Sacks. Other notable speakers include Dana White, CEO of the UFC, and evangelical leader Franklin Graham. Country music stars Lee Greenwood and Chris Janson will also take the stage.
Conspicuously absent from the list are former First Lady Melania Trump and Ivanka Trump. Instead, Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and their respective partners, Kimberly Guilfoyle and Lara Trump, will be speaking. The lineup aims to bolster Trump's appeal across various voter demographics, including African-American and Latino communities.
Convention Highlights and Future Prospects
The convention, which runs from July 15 to 18, will see around 50,000 participants and numerous events. The highlight will be the official nomination of Donald Trump, marked by the release of 100,000 red, white, and blue balloons. Another key moment will be the announcement of Trump's running mate, with names like Marco Rubio, Doug Burgum, and JD Vance circulating as potential candidates.
The convention aims to focus on key Republican campaign themes such as immigration, crime, and inflation. However, the uncertainty surrounding Joe Biden's candidacy looms large. The Democratic president's recent debate performance has led to calls for him to step down, adding an element of unpredictability to the upcoming election. If Biden were to withdraw, it could significantly alter the Republican campaign strategy, especially if Kamala Harris were to become the Democratic nominee.
