A luxury yacht sank off the Sicilian coast, leaving six individuals missing, including tech tycoon Mike Lynch and his daughter. As search and rescue operations continue, the tragedy highlights the dangers of sailing amidst severe weather conditions.

The Italian fire brigade divers continue tirelessly the arduous search for the six people who disappeared early Monday morning after the wreck of the luxury sailboat in which they were traveling, a short distance from the Sicilian coast. The missing include tech tycoon Mike Lynch and his daughter Hannah, along with prominent figures from the financial world, such as Jonathan Bloomer, the president of Morgan Stanley International, and his wife Judy. The tragedy unfolded when the luxurious sailboat, the Bayesian, sank during a violent storm, believed to have caused the hull to tilt and ultimately capsize.

Rescue operations are focused on locating the missing individuals inside the sunken vessel, which lies at a depth of 50 meters. Specialized divers, some of whom previously worked on the Costa Concordia disaster, face significant challenges due to the depth and confined spaces within the wreck. Reports indicate that the divers have only a limited time for each dive, making the search painstakingly slow. Despite the efforts, they have yet to find any trace of the missing passengers, leading to concerns that they may be trapped inside the wreckage.

Eyewitness accounts describe the chaos as the yacht was overtaken by the storm, with survivors recounting how the vessel rapidly sank, leaving them scrambling for safety. Among the survivors is Charlotte Golunski, who shared a harrowing account of keeping her one-year-old daughter afloat amidst the turmoil. The yacht was reportedly at full capacity with 22 individuals on board, including ten crew members. The ongoing search and rescue efforts continue as families await news of their loved ones.
