The much-anticipated concert of American rapper Travis Scott at the Allianz Riviera stadium in Nice, attended by 40,000 fans, was overshadowed by a series of thefts and disturbing incidents. According to the Alpes-Maritimes Departmental Security, eleven complaints were filed, primarily for snatching, with some victims also reporting wild stings. Jewelry was the main target of these thefts.
Two young suspects, aged 21 and 24, were arrested by police with the assistance of the event's security agents. However, they were later released due to insufficient evidence linking them directly to the thefts. Regional daily Nice Matin reported that some victims were gassed before being robbed, although the Security did not confirm this information.
In a statement following the event, the organizer announced that some of the stolen jewelry had been recovered and urged victims to contact the city police station. The Nice prosecutor's office confirmed that only five complaints had been filed with the police for snatching and stated that they were not aware of any complaints regarding injections.
Eyewitness accounts from the concert described chaotic scenes in the pit, where spectators had their jewelry and handbags stolen. One victim recounted how his necklace was torn off during the third song of the concert. He, along with other victims, reported the incidents to the police officers present at the event, who advised them to file complaints at the police station.
Despite the allegations of gassing and injections, the prosecution has not received any formal complaints regarding these claims. The incidents have raised concerns about the safety measures in place at large-scale events and the effectiveness of security personnel in preventing such occurrences.
