The recent legislative elections in Val-de-Marne have been marred by numerous incidents, reflecting the heightened tensions between political activists. In Saint-Maur, the tearing of a poster depicting a baby hostage of Hamas led to a series of complaints between mayor and candidate Sylvain Berrios (LR) and his opponent Céline Vercelloni (Les Écologues). This is just one of many examples, with similar incidents reported in Vincennes and Maisons-Alfort.
In Bonneuil-sur-Marne, the mayor Denis Öztorun faced threats and insults on social media platform X after reacting to an incident involving candidate Anne-Gaëlle Sabourin (RN). Despite the vitriol, Öztorun has opted not to file any complaints, expressing his disgust but also his resolve not to be intimidated.
Racial tensions have also surfaced during the campaign. In Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, the mayor was accused of making racist remarks, prompting Louis Boyard to document the statements. In Villecresnes, Boyard intervened again after similar accusations, leading to a report to the prosecutor by the local mayor.
Meanwhile, in Paris, the aftermath of the legislative elections saw city officials working to restore order. Following a demonstration by the left, the statue on Place de la République was vandalized. Alexandra Cordebard, mayor of the 10th arrondissement, and Ariel Weil, socialist mayor of Paris Center, praised the efforts of municipal agents who worked tirelessly to clean up the area.
The demonstration, which attracted 8,000 people, descended into violence. According to police sources, 500 ultra-left individuals, some hooded, gathered on Rue Charlot before moving to Place de la République. The clashes included the detonation of agricultural bombs and the vandalism of Bouygues Télécom stores and Banque Populaire branches.
