Syrian Opposition Gains Ground in Damascus and Homs

The Syrian opposition has rapidly expanded its control over key cities, including Damascus and Homs, amid significant withdrawals of regime forces. Reports indicate that the armed opposition has reinforced its positions in the capital, sending additional troops from northern and southern fronts. Following the capture of the provinces of Daraa, Sweida, and Quneitra, opposition forces are now approaching Damascus, with regime troops retreating from several towns in the surrounding areas.

In a notable development, the opposition announced the complete withdrawal of regime forces from the city of Arbin and Douma in the Damascus countryside. Local sources confirmed that panic has spread among regime soldiers, leading to further retreats from positions around the capital. The leader of the Joint Operations Administration of the Syrian opposition, Ahmed al-Sharaa, encouraged fighters to prepare for an imminent advance into Damascus, asserting that the regime's downfall is near.

Control Expands in Homs and Southern Provinces

In Homs, the armed opposition has made significant inroads, reportedly taking control of Homs Central Prison and liberating hundreds of prisoners. They have also engaged in fierce clashes with regime forces, claiming control over 13 villages and towns on the outskirts of Homs. The opposition's military actions coincide with a broader offensive aimed at securing strategic locations, including the ancient city of Palmyra.

Meanwhile, the opposition has declared the complete liberation of the provinces of Daraa, Sweida, and Quneitra, with reports of capturing key military installations. The Syrian regime, however, maintains that its forces are still operational in these areas, conducting redeployments and artillery strikes against opposition positions. Despite the regime's claims, the armed opposition continues to gain momentum, raising concerns about the stability of the Assad government.
